EARLY TIMES REPORT
BARAMULLA, Jun 2: Describing youth as future of the nation, former minister and member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil said country has high hopes on its younger generation and they have to play a bigger role in the process of Nation building. He was addressing a youth Congress convention here today.
He said youth are strength of the Nation and should come together and join hands to become stakeholders in the decision making process of the country. "Just as future of any house is dependent on its younger generation, similarly for the Congress party, youth are the hope for tomorrow," he added.
Vakil lauded the role of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi in motivating the youth to come forward and play a proactive role in serving society.
Describing corruption as one of the biggest challenges before the country, Vakil said youth of the nation has to play an important role in eradication of corruption because this menace has left poor populace paralyzed.
He said that fight against corruption begins at home and the issue needs to be firstly taken up at individual level, adding that, everybody should first introspect and rage a war against corruption at personal level automatically the menace would get tamed.
He appreciated the role of UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who did not spare their own party men who were found involved in corruption and even forced the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to resign from the post just on allegations of being involved in corruption. He said this shows how much congress is committed to corruption free system.
Vakil pitched for making organizations more democratic and involving youth, who find politics inaccessible."The biggest problem is that politics is out of reach of the youth of the country," Vakil added "If we make our organizations democratic, it would be a major step towards fighting corruption,"
Vakil came down heavily on opposition and said that Congress does not believe in double standards. He said that unlike opposition Congress believes in strengthening all the three regions of state by ensuring equitable development. The opposition, he said always tries to exploit the sentiments of people on regional and religious basis which will have dangerous ramifications in days to come. He said no where opposition raises issues concerning people or talks of development but tries to play with sentiments of people which is quite a dangerous trend, Vakil divulged.
Referring to the report of interlocutors, Vakil said that no single party can propose a solution of Kashmir issue. He added that anyone who has intentions to give peace a chance in Kashmir must be taken on board a dialogue process. "This is high time separatists and other mainstream political parties to understand their responsibilities towards state subjects who have suffered a lot during past over two decades", he said
He said Centre has always been open for dialogue and Hurriyat leaders must seize this opportunity. He said that there was no harm in holding a meaningful dialogue on Kashmir even if it fails. At least a beginning would be made towards peaceful resolution of all the issues. The basic aim should be to make attempt to find a viable solution to Kashmir issue by involving all the political parties and people of all three regions of the state including separatists as well Vakil added.
Vakil expressed concern over the death of hundreds of children in GB Pant Hospital Kashmir and reiterated that entire mess must be got investigated by a sitting judge of the state high court as the precious human lives are involved. The investigation must be time bound guilty identified and punished accordingly.
Others who addressed the gathering include Baramulla Lok Sabha Constituency Vice President Dr. Khursheed Ahmad, Assembly Presidents Altaf Ahmad Maik Rafiabad, Sheikh Manzoor Sangrama, Raja Rahil Uri, Rafiq Wani Kupwara and Mohammad Iqbal Mir Baramulla.
