People rough up PSI in Kishtwar over alleged abusive language, block road | | | ASIF IQBAL NAIK KISHTWAR, June 2: People in Kishtwar held a strong protest against the alleged abusive language used by a probationary sub-inspector (PSI) during checking of vehicles at the ever busy Dak Banglow Chowk here. The protestors alleged that PSI Ranjeet Singh used abusive language against males and was rude towards a female student when he seized the keys of her scooty while she was on her way to school. They alleged that the PSI also beat and slapped few students and drivers as a result of which he was roughed up by them. They later blocked the road for more than three hours and demanded action against the PSI and SI Shiv Krishan Sharma who had allegedly manhandled some people while trying to rescue his colleague. Senior civil and police officers including Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan, additional SP Kulbir Singh and tehsildar Inderjeet Singh Parihar reached the spot and pacified the people who were also joined by Imam of Jamia Masjid, Kishtwar, and some separatist leaders. After the officials assured action against the alleged accused police personnel, the people dispersed peacefully. Meanwhile, the PSI denied the allegations of using abusive language and slapping any driver. He said that he was simply performing his duty and never misbehaved with any female student. He said that without any fault of his, some 3-4 youth assaulted him and tore his uniform. He said had SI Sharma not come to his rescue, he could have been killed by the assaulters. He said that he would follow the law to seek punishment to those who assaulted him while he was on duty.
