Resolution of J&K issues on the principles of justice, humanity
BJP's Message From Kashmir
6/3/2012 12:40:42 AM
RUSTAM
JAMMU, Jun 2: The BJP's Study Group, which is headed by senior party leader Rajnath Singh, on Friday reached Srinagar for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and ascertain people's views on the issues facing them. Talking to media persons, he made three important statements. One was that the BJP wanted to "resolve all the outstanding issues in Jammu and Kashmir on the principles of humanity and justice". In other words, Rajnath Singh reiterated that the BJP continues to pursue the Atal Bihari Vajpayee line. Vajpayee had as Prime Minister suggested that he would want the resolution of Kashmir issue within the parameters of insaniyat - a line that was appreciated by many in Kashmir.
The other was that the BJP "has not rejected outrightly the interlocutors' report on Jammu and Kashmir" and that it would want clarifications from the interlocutors on "lot of points raised by them in their report". Significantly, the local BJP leadership had taken no time in repudiating outright the interlocutors' report. It had held several demonstrations in Jammu on the day the report was made public. It had rejected the report saying it was pro-Kashmir and anti-Jammu and anti-Ladakh and that it didn't make any recommendation calculated to mitigate the hardship of the refugees of all varieties inhabiting Jammu since decades. The statement of Rajnath Singh on the interlocutors' report once again established that the BJP high command and the local BJP are treading different paths.
The third important statement was that the "BJP is preparing its own report, which will be comprehensive and not bookish". "The Study Group will prepare a detailed report on Jammu and Kashmir and BJP's viewpoint on the issue will be reflected in that report". One can very well anticipate as to what the BJP's vision document would be all about. For, those who are assisting the BJP Parliamentary Study group are those who hail the Nehrubian approach and those who have been flirting with some Hurriyat leaders and assuring them that they would ensure the return of the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus to the Valley so that the separatists are in a position to tell the international community that their movement is secular and not sectarian.
The BJP's message from Kashmir was loud and clear. The message was that the BJP would not take recourse to statecraft while finding a solution to the so-called Kashmir issue and that it would, on the other hand, work out a roadmap which would be based on the twin principles of "humanity and justice". The BJP's message from Kashmir clearly suggested that the BJP, the Congress and similar other "secular" formations in the country are in the same page as far as their approach towards Kashmir is concerned and that the BJP would not mind going beyond the confines of the Indian Constitution to "conciliate" the so-called alienated Kashmiri leadership.
It is disgusting that the senior BJP leader, like all the Delhi-based leaders, did not expose those involved in the hate and break-India campaign by saying that those carrying on anti-India campaign are communalist of communalists, that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India to the same extent as other states of the Union, that the BJP would oppose tooth and nail all the proposals which give legitimacy to the politics of separatism and communalism in Kashmir, that it would not take rest till the time Article 370 was abrogated and the stated integrated fully with India, that what is needed is a radical reform that empowers the neglected people of Jammu and Ladakh and meet the needs of the refugees, that it shall not allow another communal partition of the country under any pretext and so on.
Those who believe that the BJP would play a positive role and take on those who are directly and indirectly working for the Kashmir's separation from India are living in a fool's paradise. The BJP is not going to oblige them. For, the BJP is a party of pseudo-secularists, rabble-rousers and self-seekers having no place whatsoever in their scheme of things for the nationalists. That's the reason the BJP has become quite unpopular with even senior BJP leaders like L K Advani openly saying that the people of the country are displeased as much with the Congress as with the BJP. One may say that Advani made these remarks because he has been sidelined or because there are elements within the BJP who have been promoting and projecting Narendra Modi, but his statement that the BJP has failed to come up to the expectations of the people is based on the ground realities.
