70 pilgrims not allowed to leave for Amarnath yatra, detained

KATHUA, Jun 3: At least 70 pilgrims were detained by police here today after they made an attempt to leave for the holy Amarnath yatra.The pilgrims assembled at Ramleela Ground here early in the morning and made an attempt tp leave for the holy Amarnath pilgrimage amidst the raising of religious slogans but they were not allowed to move. They were taken into custody by police and shifted to the district police lines. They demanded that the government should allow them to start the yatra from Jayeshth Purnima that falls on Monday.They were led by the Kathua unit chief of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Gian Singh Pathnia. Criticising the police action, he said, "The state government is denying us our religious rights.They accused the government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board of allegedly trying to curtail the period of the pilgrimage at the "behest of separatist forces".
