| BJP's discrimination slogan fizzling out | | MLAs confined to constituency politics, personal equations | | early times report
Jammu, Jun 3: The slogan of state unit of BJP on which it has been over the years cashing on public sentiments and making political gains has been discrimination with Jammu in various spheres of governance at the hands of Kashmir centric rulers. In the year 2008 Assembly apart from Amarnath land row, it was the high point around which issues were spun and party managed a never before performance. The leaders would not feel tired of raking it up in highest pitch anytime on any forum. But over a period of time the discrimination slogan is getting blurred in the confusion and dilemma of the leadership as well the MLAs of party, so much so that no MLA in any faction is now touching it as the main plank of polity, not to speak of raking it up with a sense of conviction. One wonders why and it is the MLAs like firebrand speakers Ashok Khajuria who is maintaining studied silence in matters of brazen and open discrimination with Jammu.
The most energetic and a leader with zeal for cause of Jammu , until some time back was the only leader in the party who would strain his vocal chords and tire himself relentlessly in highlighting the areas where people of Jammu faced injustice and discrimination. When he was the party president, seldom would any day pass when he would not highlight and speak against the powers that be to hilt before media , sometimes it appeared that he was genuinely pained to see and a state of helplessness Jammu people feel in facing such excesses at the hands of the government. When he got elected to Assembly in 2008, one thought he would shake the House with his verbal outbursts seen normally in the party office. Initially he did, using his lung power, besides wearing the attire to distinctively have that typical Dogra identity, and would often talk about discrimination with Jammu.
But as the time passed, his enthusiasm failed and fizzled out completely on normal issues, not to speak of his concern over the main party slogans like discrimination , which has been conveniently pushed into oblivion by almost all the party MLAs, including the genuine four and the faction led by Prof Chaman Lal Gupta. One only wonders about the changed strategy and attitude of this firebrand MLA who is behaving now like a representative of ruling alliance. Of all the political and other issues related with day to governance where Jammu faces discrimination not only at the hands of Kashmir Centric National Conference but also by its own representatives from Congress Khajuria surprisingly has maintained studied silence over the discrimination meted out by J&K Bank not only matters of recruitment but also in its own functional , policy matters with Jammu region. It is out and out adopting discriminatory and biased approach with Jammu based media is too brazen to get unnoticed. Khajuria and other MLAs have confined their politics to constituency matters alone. That too is important but the leaders of his seniority and stature must be above the normal matters and personal equations with any party or leaders in ruling ally, so that they serve the people of Jammu in right perspective, instead of befooling them.
