Amidst chanting Bum Bum Boley and Har Har Mahadev the pilgrims were all set to start the yatra to holy cave today to perform darshan in the cave shrine tomorrow. However, the police did not allow them to proceed further from Parade and they were arrested and taken to Amarnath Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar where from they were released in the evening. Those who were arrested included Mahamandleshwar Swami Radhey Radhey Ji Maharaj, Dr Rama Kant Dubey state president VHP, Leela Karan ex convener of Swami Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti, Sat Sharma general secretary BJP, Munish Sharma, state president BJYM, Er Gulam Ali a Gujjar leader and hundreds of pilgrims including a sizable number of women. Earlier, after Swami Radhay Radhay finished his speech and Surinder Jain national spokesperson VHP asked pilgrims to make a round of the temples in the city in the form of a procession till vehicles reach for boarding of yatris. The atmosphere was surcharged in Parade as slogans Bum Bum Boley rent the air soon after the yatris took out a procession towards Ranvireshwar Temple from Parade. However, the big pose of police which was deployed at Parade created a barricade and stopped near the PDD Office Parade. The pilgrims tried to leave via Raj Tilak road and on that side another barricade was created giving no chance to pilgrims to move. Then they tried to leave via Parade Women’s College towards Kacchi Chawni and police stopped them also forcing them again to proceed via Geeta Bhawan. This drama continued for one hour resulting into jostling between police and the yatris. However, giving a slip to police over score of Bajrang Dal activists managed to break cordon at Parade and marched towards Raj Tilak road but they were chased by police who stopped them at a distance of 50 metres ahead. Later, all the yatris were packed in 10 vehicles and taken to Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar where they were released in the afternoon. Earlier, addressing the yatris Mahamandleswar said that performing yatra is the Constitutional right of every Hindu and no power on earth can snatch this right from them. He made a dig at the Government for creating impediments in annual Amarnath Yatra and said that the Sant Samaj will not tolerate this any more. He, however, appealed the yatris to maintain the restraint and hold peaceful protest in case the authorities did not allow them to proceed ahead. Dr Surinder Jain while addressing also asked the pilgrims to maintain a cool and not to involve in any kind of violence as the VHP's programme is peaceful. He made a dig at authorities for not allowing the pilgrims to proceed for darshan. Later, addressing a press conference in the afternoon Dr Jain said that Government’s action was highly deplorable and it will have serious repercussions. He said hundreds of yatris were stopped and arrested at different places in the state who were on their way to Amarnath. He said five pilgrims who had managed to reach Baltal were arrested by police yesterday. Dr Jain said the imposition of Section 144 was acceptable but declaring the yatra as unconstitutional is highly condemnable and he will challenge this in court of law. He said tomorrow again hundreds of yatris led by Mahamandleshwar Haridwar will leave for holy cave and protest if police tries to stop them. He said BJP general secretary JP Nadda and MP Tarun Vijay will also participate in tomorrow's programme. Besides people at all district headquarters will also hold dharnas in protest against the stopping of yatra by Government. Criticising the Governor, he accused him of working on behest of New Delhi and said that Governor who had not even 10 minutes time to meet the VHP or other leaders involved with yatri arrangements should quit .
