World Environment Day celebrated at River Tawi | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 4: World Environment Day 2012 was celebrated at River Tawi today on the theme "Save Tawi Campaign". The event was organized by WWF-India J&K in collaboration with Global Gandhian Family, Indian Youth Hostel Association and Environmental Awareness Forum. About 200 students from four Eco-friendly schools of Jammu namely Lawrence Public School Panjtirthi, Lawrence Public School Sidhra, New Environmental School Jammu and Shiksha Niketan School Jammu participated in the campaign. The polythenes and other non-renewable damped wastes in the river Tawi were cleaned by students, teachers, participants of NGO's and the citizens of Jammu city. The students, teachers, NGO's and citizens of Jammu city took a pledge on the eve World Environment Day to make the cleaning of river Tawi a regular activity which is the main source of water to Jammu city and is now being degraded day by day due to sewage and garbage disposal of Jammu city. Additional DC Jammu Sharma attended and he assured that district administration will give full support for such actions by civil society and Non Governmental Organizations for the beneficial cause of Jammu city. Various participants on the event were Padamshree S.P Verma from Global Ghandian Family, Maj. General G.S Jamwal from Paryavaran Sanstha, Gandhotra from Indian Youth Hostel Association, Dr. C.M Seth, Chairperson WWF-India J&K, Prof. Bholla Nath, Roop Lal Bharti, Retd. PCCF, I.C Jandial from J&K Public Technocrats Society, Bushan Parimo from Environmental Awareness Fourm, Kapil Padha from Van Sampada and other prominent citizens of Jammu city. |
