Disengaged SPOs to sit on indefinite hunger strike from June 19 | | | Early Times REport
RAMNAGAR, June 5: Exactly two months after unsuccessfully prevailing upon the various senior Police functionaries as well as political top-brass of the State and running helplessly from pillar to post, a meeting to discus the issue of disengaged SPOs was held here today under the chairmanship of General Secretary, Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) RS Pathania. Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Pathania said that it was decided that final ultimatum of two-weeks shall be accorded to the government for immediately re-engaging 60-odd disengaged SPOs of Ramnagar. Where after, dismissed SPOs shall sit on indefinite hunger strike which, if unattended shall culminate into 'fast-unto-death'. Speakers were critical of stoic silence of the government on the burning issue of Ramnagar. Pathania while addressing the media-men said protesting SPOs and people lamented that police recruits from Kashmir who raised pro-Pakistan slogans in PTS Kathua were never touched. But those patriotic SPOs from Ramnagar who have lost their lives and limbs while fighting insurgency and are now demanding decent wages are being silenced by disengagement orders and criminal cases. It is pertinent to mention here that about 100-odd SPOs had went on strike in Ramnagar. Police authorities had defused the strike on the promise that their genuine demands shall be addressed. But once the strike was called off by SPOs, they were disengaged criminal cases were slapped against them. Pathania further made a fervent appeal to the government that in the interest of the poor and brave SPOs, all disengaged SPOs need to be re-instated and criminal cases against them should be immediately withdrawn. He also lobbied for a comprehensive regularization/absorption policy for the protesting SPOs. |
