YAIKS resumes agitation, demanding implementation of PM's package | | | Srinagar, June 5 : The Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj today resumed token hunger strike near here in support of their demands, including implementation of Prime Minister's employment package. The YAIKS had suspended their hunger strike on April 18 following assurance from the state government to implement the package. Press Secretary of the Samaj Ajay Safaya told UNI that after failing to get any response from the government, it was decided to resume hunger strike in summer capital, Srinagar from today. He said the members of the Samaj will sit on hunger strike from 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs everyday here till their demands are met. Chief and Member Apex Committee of the Samaj Pandit R K Bhat said members of the Samaj suspended the 22-day-long hunger strike at Jammu after assurance by Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Raman Bhalla and Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani that their demands would be met. However, he said, despite assurance nothing has been done. "We demand implementation of PM's employment and other package announced in 2008 for the Kashmiri pandits," he said. The Samaj also demanded enhancement of cash assistance and issuance of ordinance for protection of shrine, temples and other property left in the valley. Threatening to intensify the agitation, he said, "our silence should not be taken as a sign of weakness." He said, "we demand that all vacant posts identified for Kashmiri Pandits be filled with age relaxation for over-aged youths of the community." |
