High command not able to 'harmonize' final list….? | Delay in announcement of new PCC raising speculations | | early times report Jammu, June 5 : Even as Member Parliament Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz is all set to continue as the chief of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) for next term, but delay in making this announcement formally is causing all sorts of speculative gossips in the political quarters and within the organization. With change on cards in the entire PCC makeup, the High command is likely to announce the new state party unit soon but pushing the things further are only generating speculations loaded with spice out of the factional infighting , each side giving the tilt of names including PCC chief in its favour. Sources said that New Delhi has almost cleared the name of Prof Soz as president of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee , but is taking too long to make a formal announcement to this effect, which is raising many eyebrows in political quarters. Though High command has given indication to this effect quite some time back, but the delay is only on account of finalizing the names for the new PCC body as its new functionaries. The list of names have since been submitted to concerned quarters in New Delhi to sift and give a final nod to the few out of probable contenders, but the High command is not able to harmonise the list as the contenders include names from among the two factions in PCC led by Prof Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad. Sources said J&K is a sensitive state where party matters particularly those related to organizational decisions assume significance and have a direct bearing on the larger picture of polity, the High command doesn't want to take the final decision in a hurry as it wants to accommodate not only the people from within the two factions, but also wants to give a representative character in terms of there regions. "This will be done for the first time as it has been the desire of many leaders and the main motive behind this concept of accommodating people at regional and even district level in the new PCC unit is strengthen the party at all levels", said a senior party leader endorsing the concept and justifying the delay in announcing new functionaries. " However the party has made it clear that Prof Soz will continue to head PCC in the state and he will get all the required support from the high command to strengthen Congress in Jammu and Kashmir…", he said adding that this may annoy supporters and loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad as they have been waiting for him to take over the reins of the party in the state. Azad will be given some limited role at the national level, though he himself is also desirous of coming back to J&K and take over the responsibility of running party affairs to begin with, he added. Sources said the announcement of the PCC president would be made by the AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi herself. Since there are some conventions in offing in the state, this may be done in one of conventions of the party to be organized in Kashmir anytime now, sources said. |
