BCCI takes U-turn to hush up JKCA scam 'never ordered any probe into the multi-crore scam'
6/6/2012 12:14:29 AM
Bashir Assad
Srinagar, June 5; In a complete U-turn from its earlier stance, BCCI today denied having ordered any probe in multi-crore JKCA scam which surfaced earlier this year when officials of the association while acting as whistle blowers disclosed running of parallel by office bearers who were enjoying proximity with its president Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
Meanwhile, in its interim report submitted to JKCA president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the internal probe committee constituted earlier has discovered embezzlement in cash transaction to the tune of Rs. 40.50 crores as the principal amount and around 14 crores as interest component which has been misappropriated by chairman JKCA Aslam Goni, General Secretary Ahsan Mirza and CAO Muhammad Saleem Khan.
While taking complete U-turn from its earlier stance, BCCI today said that it never ordered any probe in multi-crore JKCA scam. Talking to Early Times, Joint Secretary BCCI Anurag Singh Thakur said that BCCI has never ordered any probe in the alleged JKCA scam. "Who ordered the probe and when" Anurag told Early Times adding that BCCI had only asked for joint investigation of accounts which, however, could not mature as JKCA had ordered internal probe into the alleged financial irregularities.
Contradicting the earlier stance, (BCCI team will probe and scrutinize records in connection with multicrore scam in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and examine accounts & records of JKCA to know what had happened) Joint Secretary BCCI today said that BCCI officials have never gone to Srinagar in this connection"
It merits a mention here that Dr. Farooq Abdullah , who was under fire from the opposition in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the scam, had said, ""We had written to the Board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) to appoint their auditors but they wanted to conduct an independent investigations of JKCA accounts….We had suggested neutral auditors to verify the records. They (BCCI) said they will conduct audit themselves".
Now the latest assertion from BCCI joint secretary Anurag Singh Thakur that no probe was ordered has belied earlier stances of both Dr. Abdullah and BCCI officials and observers believe that the statements made earlier were aimed to silent the opposition PDP that was demanding CBI inquiry and registration of FIR against Dr. Abdullah for his alleged involvement in the scam.
Meanwhile, the internal probe committee, sources told Early Times, has submitted its interim report to JKCA president Dr. Abdullah indicting JKCA chairman Aslam Ghoni, General Secretary Ahsan Mirza and CAO Muhammad Saleem Khan for embezzling principal amount of 40.50 crores received from BCCI from time to time and Rs. 14 crores as interest component on the principal amount.
Sources said that the committee has submitted its report to JKCA president indicting the trio for embezzling the huge public money received from BCCI. " it is simply a cash transactions, cash books, vouchers and other association could be ascertained" sources said. They said that police has not made any progress as yet in its investigations and surprisingly it has never asked for custody of alleged even for one hour so far.
" Police is instead harassing the whistle blowers by issuing notices to them and summoning them while as the real culprits against whom FIR stands registered have never been summoned" said a member of JKCA wishing anonymity.
Meanwhile, treasurer JKCA Manzur Ahmad Wazir who is also whistle blower, sources, said has been authorized to act on behalf of the association in nascence (Dr. Farooq Abdullah) who is out of station while as Shambu Nath Sharma has been made in charge of Jammu wing of JKCA till further orders. Records have not been verified as yet as all the records are lying with the police and the committee has no access to these documents" sources said. They said that though court has ordered release of documents but the same have not been handed over to the committee. "
