early times report
JAMMU, June 5: On day third of VHP's Amarnath Yatra movement 200 activists were arrested for violating the prohibitory orders in the City. As usual they were taken to Shri Amarnath yatri Niwas and later removed in the afternoon.
Those arrested included national spokesman VHP Dr Surinder Jain, VHP leaders Dr V K Gupta, Dr Sham, and BD leader Nand Kishore.
Before their arrest scores of VHP and Bajrang Dal (BD) activists assembled in Parade in front of Brahman Sabha and protested against the Government action for not allowing the permission to the yatris on Jesht Purnima yesterday to maintain the age old tradition of the yatra.
The yatris shouting slogans against the State Government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) they blamed them of betraying the people of country in general and Shiv Bhakts in particular.
To register their serious protest the yatris performed the Shiv Tandav (dance) to invoke Lord Shiva's curses on those who create impediments in the yatra time and duration and also torched the effigy of Governor N N Vohra who is also the chairman of SASB.
Addressing the gathering at Parade, Dr Surinder Jain said the Government as well as SASB has been fully exposed on the Amarnath yatra issue. The VHP succeeded in its Amarnath Bachao Andolan as Government was compelled to perform Pooja on Jesht Purnima.
He said the VHP will wind up its agitation programme at Jammu and take it to Delhi to make it a nation wide Andolan on the pattern of Ram Sethu Andolan.
Later, after his release Dr Jain addressed a press conference and reiterated to launch the nationwide movement on the Amarnath issue. He said that VHP leaders will leave this evening for Union Capital and stay at Jallandhar for night. They will address a press conference at Jalandhar. Next day they will reach Chandigarh and also address a press conference there too. Before reaching Delhi they will participate in a function at Panipat Haryana and reach Union Capital day after tomorrow.
He said VHP leaders will call on president in Delhi and demand that Governor N N Vohra be recalled. They will also meet Prime Minister and Home Minister and submit a memorandum to them. ``We will apprise them that the SASB was responsible for 2008 Amarnath land row and creation of wedge between two regions of the state'' he added.
He also lambasted the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for making unwarranted remarks on twitter on Amarnath agitation. He said that he will accompany CM to holy cave on foot if he is interested. The tracks can be made clean for yatra had the Government been interested in the same. But acting on behest of separatists they are trying to sabotage the yatra, he added.
He said though Shiv bhakts agitation till date was against the Board and Governor but with CM's remarks against a lot of resentment he has invited their wrath. Dr Jain said that the second phase of agitation will begin now and this agitation has forced the Government and Board to bow before Shiv Bhakts as it is now accepted that yatra from next year will begin on jesht Purnima and continue for two months.
