| Div Com chairs Anti Narcotic Task Force meet | | | Srinagar, January 31 Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mr. Basharat Ahmed chaired the first ever meeting of Anti Narcotic Task Force setup to curb cultivation of cannabis crops including poppy here today. Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Mr.Mehraj-u-din Kakroo, Additional District Development Commissioner Anantnag Mr.Jaipal Singh, SSP Mr.Riyaz Bedar, representatives of Health, Forest and Rural Development Departments attended the meeting. The meeting discussed in detail various measures aimed at curbing the cultivation of bhung, poppy and other such crops besides the steps that can be taken to destroy such crops. Divisional Commissioner directed the valley Deputy Commissioners to immediately identify areas where such crops are grown as also the area under its cultivation. He asked to submit a detailed report within 10 days. He also called for launching a vigorous drive from February 15 to destroy poppy cultivation at its initial stage. He underscored need for initiating an intensive awareness campaign to make people aware about the ill affects of poppy cultivation and the punitive action which can be taken against persons found involved in this illegal trade. Divisional Commissioner instructed the Health Authorities to organize camps for rehabilitation of youth addicted to these crops and drugs. He said a proposal should be mooted to establish one ward in each major hospital of the state. He stressed for greater coordination among various concerned departments to achieve better results in the offensive against narcotics. |
