Do not indulge in undue profiteering, Omar to tourist traders | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 6: Expressing concern over reports about some traders and transporters trying to cheat tourists, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said nobody would be allowed to take undue advantage of heavy rush of guests. Addressing a public meeting at Tangmarg, about ten km short of world famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, Mr Abdullah said the tourist boom witnessing the state at present should not be utilised wrongly, exhibiting opportunist approach by the people associated with this industry. He said there were complaints against transport operators and hoteliers. "You should not try to indulge in profiteering and unreasonable practices while dealing with tourists who are our guests," he said. They should not take bad impression with them but return happy, he said. "We should encourage them to come again and again," he advised the traders in tourism trade. According to official figures, more than 5 lakh tourists had visited the Valley since January this year till May end. This was more than two lakh who visited the valley during the same period last year |
