SRINAGAR, June 6: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today sanctioned Rs two crore for buying equipment for Kashmir's only pediatric institute G B Panth Children's Hospital where more than 400 infants have died this year. Azad announced sanction of funds for purchasing the necessary equipment during his visit to the hospital. He was accompanied by senior officials of his ministry. The Health Minister told reporters that all the deficiencies, which were found during his visit to the hospital last month, had been removed. "Life and death are in the hands of Allah. The deficiencies have been removed and now we hope that no death should take place for want of facilities, medicine or doctors at this hospital," he said. Azad said the state government had initiated several centrally-sponsored schemes across the state to improve the healthcare facilities particularly for expecting mothers and infants. "Free medicines will be provided to new-born babies up to the age of one month while expecting mothers, who deliver baby at government hospital, will receive assistance as provided under the scheme," he said. |
