Horses' Union protests against issuance of licences to outsiders | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
PATNITOP, June 6: To oppose the alleged conspiracy of the district administration to carry out planned settlement of Gujjars and Bakarwals in and around Patnitop and also to give them employment at the expense of locals, a strong protest demonstration was launched by the Horse Owners' Union of Patnitop. The protestors included Sarpanch Pooran Chand, Shamim Ahmed, Md. Salim, Rakesh Kumar, Shadi Lal and others complained that Patnitop Development Authority (PDA), Jammu Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC), Tourism and Forest departments have nexus with these Gujjars and Bakarwals. They also complained that they get license for their Horses to be used for commercial purpose with great reluctance and discouragement, however, these Gujjars and Bakarwals get it within few days of applying. The protesters alleged that it is a conspiracy to surround the local population with that of Gujjars and Bakarwals. Meanwhile, Early Times tried to contact Director Tourism for his comments over the issue, however, he did not respond despite repeated attempts. Later, Director's P A informed that Director Tourism gives licenses to these Horse and Ponnywalas but no licenses have been issued to outsiders. |
