Azad announces Rs 37 crore for SKIMS | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 7 : Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today announced Rs 37 crore for strengthening the healthcare facilities at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute Medical Sciences (SKIMS), the valley's top hospital. The announcement was made today by the Union Health Minister during his visit to the institute, an official spokesman said. Azad said the Center would provide all possible financial assistance to the State Government to modernize and upgrade the health care sector. While chairing a high level meeting of SKIMS officials, the Union Minister said the intake capacity of students at SKIMS Medical College Bemina would be enhanced to 100 from existing 50 students. Later, Azad visited the SMHS hospital in the city to take stock of the functioning of the hospital. The spokesman said Azad announced Rs 6 crore "for procurement of upgraded and latest diagnostic equipment" for Department of Oncology at the Cancer Centre of SMHS hospital. The Minister said certain latest diagnostic equipments and required services have already been introduced in the entre for the treatment of patients suffering from fatal disease. Azad said Government is also working for the establishment of another cancer centre in the valley. Jammu and Kashmir Medical Education Minister R S Chib and senior officers of Central and State Governments accompanied Azad during the visit.
