| Sher-e-Khas already presents a medieval look: Sadiq | | | early times report Srinagar, June 7: "Omar Sahib's main objective is to ensure that Srinagar City along with Shahr-e-Khas is back to its medieval charm. This is what the spokesman of National Conference, Tanvir Sadiq said today in a statement. Thanks to successive state governments, Shaha-e-Khas also known as down town has already achieved that ‘feat’. It is by all standards a medieval town as far as roads, sanitation and electric supply is concerned. The shabby dark lanes littered with night soil are the hallmark of this historic town. The NC spokesman is right when he says that the old city of Srinagar has sights, smells and sounds to enchant the most cynical traveler and tourist. Yes, it has tilted electric poles, pungent smell of the dirty drains and jumbled telephone wires to offer to the tourist. These characteristics are enough to get it a label of medieval town. Omar led government does not, therefore, need to do more in this regard. The government has to do what it has been doing for the past three years- do nothing and the goal can be easily achieved. Sadiq also made a mention of Shah-e-Hamdan. "What he gave us shall be revived", he said. Shah-e-Hamdan came to Kashmir with a complete religious, political and economic package. The National Conference has failed on all the fronts. It is a secular party as per its claims, it has nothing to offer politically and on the economic front it gave the Sher-e-Kashmir employment package which was resented and turned down by most of the people in the state.
