KPs feel disillusioned with Centre, State Governments
6/8/2012 11:37:40 PM
early times report
JAMMU, June 8: Getting a raw deal from State government, the displaced Kashmiri Pandits are at the cross roads of history at present.
With state government totally ignoring their problems, the community which has over 5000 years of rich cultural history, are facing the total extinction due to wrong policies of state and central governments adopted since 1947 after the accession of state with India.
The entire community which was hounded out from valley by the Pak sponsored terrorists who wanted to convert Kashmir into an Islamic state are today refugees not only in their own country but within the state.
Though 23 years have now passed since over four lakh KPs were forced to live an exiled life by gun yielding militants and their harbourers after describing them Indian agents no sincere efforts were made by the government for their resettlement in the valley to fulfill their geo-political aspirations, said Kundan Kashmiri, Chairman Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC).
He, while expressing concern over the plight of the community said the Union Government exploited the community to suit its own interests without caring for its future which turned bleak after the mass exodus of the community from valley.
He said the leaders at Delhi in league with the NC leadership of Kashmir are now attaching new theories to mass migration instead of accepting the fact that Government of the time which was ruling at the state and at centre in 1989-90 failed to protect the community in Kashmir are now joining hands with those elements who either blame for only governor Jagmohan or the community itself for mass exodus to give a clean chit to separatists in the valley.
This negative attitude of union government towards displaced community which has lost its entire immovable as well as movable property in valley and passed about 20 years in canvass tents in the open fields in Jammu and other parts of the country has generated a lot of resentment among the displaced KPs, said P.L.Koul another KP leader. He said instead of keeping their heads down in shame the leaders at Delhi are toeing the line of some politicians of state who are propagating that Pandits left valley in search of green pastures.
"We lost our land, our orchards, non fruit bearing trees, houses, cattle and other kind of property and still it is said that they came in search of green pastures, he said. Koul futher added to increase into the woes of the community which has been brought on ground by the follies of government efforts are still on to ignore their problems. The sabotage made with PM's employment package by state government is one of the causes of the same policy, he added.
He said the demand of relief holders who are on protest for over last two months and Jagti inmates who have been deprived of power supply for over a month now is the result of same mindset. Koul said this all was expected from the state government but one is astonished to see the role of union government which has never bothered to go deeply into the problems of the community or to find out the cause of the mass migration.
By joining the hands with the state leaders in digging graves for Kashmiri Pandits and ignoring their contribution to Indian ethos and age old culture will prove a Himalayan blunder for union government.
