Goni dares Farooq, challenges his authority | 'Chore machaye shore....' | | Bashir Assad Srinagar, June 8: A day after this news-paper disclosed that Aslam Goni, chairman J&K Cricket Association has been indicted by the internal probe committee for embezzling crores of rupees, he came out with a statement challenging the authority of JKCA president Dr. Farooq Abdullah for vesting the powers to anybody without consulting the working committee of the association. Goni's statement has surprised many who know about the acquaintances he has been enjoying with senior Abdullah since long and many even challenge the intensity of the statement attributed to Goni in this behalf. The fact, however, remains that Goni has issued a statement in which he has challenged the authority of his mentor, godfather, companion, friend and cohort Dr. Abdullah who was so compassionate that he managed a palatial house for Goni next to his own bungalow at Bhatandi Jammu, made him Advocate General bestowed on him all kinds of favours which include his unconstitutional induction in JKCA and then elevated him to the post of chairman and also made him working president-a post which is no where in constitution of the association. One wonders if Goni is really so cruel and disloyal that he forgot everything which Farooq did for him at the cost of many and even at the cost of state exchequer and issued a statement against him on the sidelines of a small function at GGM Science college Jammu the other day. What was even more interesting was that Goni even talked of getting back siphoned money from the "culprits". Now the question remains who is the "culprit". It was the responsibility of BCCI to investigate or ask CBI to inquire into the financial irregularities in JKCA which run in hundreds of crores. But given the fact that Jammu and Kashmir enjoys 'special status" in corruption and corrupt practices under Article 370 of the constitution of India, BCCI chose not to erode the "special status" though initially it had announced a probe into the matter. The case was handed over to Jammu and Kashmir police and while upholding its decades old "principles of shielding the offender and punishing the truthful" it left no stone unturned to hush-up the case . Finally the internal probe committee constituted by non other than president JKCA in its interim report has made it abundantly clear that Goni with hand in glove with few more office bearers have siphoned more than Rs. 50 crores as if it was their personal property. It goes like proverbial, "chore machaye shore". One who is a dacoit, who has looted the public money ever since Farooq patronized him, one who mended the rules in the association to allow his evil partner Ahsan Mirza deal with the accounts even if he was not treasurer- is now talking of "culprits". This statement can be analyzed from different angles; Goni wants to convey a strong message to Farooq and the message is save me and be safe. Second, Goni is trying to keep himself relevant in the changing scenario particularly when BCCI denied having ever ordered any probe in JKCA scam. And last but not least he is trying to change the public perception because he stands exposed and in the eyes of public he is a " robust rogue". It merits a mention here that Early Times has reported on June 7 that treasurer JKCA Manzur Ahmad Wazir who is also whistle blower has been authorized to act on behalf of the association in absence of its president (Dr. Farooq Abdullah) who is out of station while as Shambu Nath Sharma has been made in charge of Jammu wing of JKCA till further orders. . |
