ICELA Asks for closing stone crushers, cement plant at Nagrota | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 9: ICELA has asked for the immediate closure of stone crushers, mixing and heating plants and cement mixing plant at Panjgrain near Nagrota here. Addressing a meeting at Panjgrain, ICELA Convener Ashok Sharma said the dust emanating from these plants was causing health problems to the villagers. Inspite of repeated representations by villagers and ICELA committee to the state pollution control board, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, and vice-president of AFCONS, Mumbai, the polluting units continued to function in the area, he added. Ashok said the dust emanating from these units had caused asthma and other health problems to the some Panjgrain residents. He claimed that at least five persons, including a Women, had died of asthma during the past few months. He urged upon the state and central pollution control board, environment department, district magistrate, Jammu, and union environment ministry to take immediate steps and stop the operation of these polluting units to save the human, cattle and plant life without any further loss of time. Among others, the meeting was attended by S N Sharma, Dr J L Gupta, J L Bhagat, M S Jamwal, Yash Paul Singh Jamwal, Gopal Singh, Subash Singh, Parkash Ram, Joginder Lal, Shashi Prabha, Mohammad Sadiq, Gopal Singh, Onkar Singh and Nirmla Devi.
