National workshop on Nanoscience inaugurated

JAMMU, June 9: The National Workshop on "Nanoscience and Materials Characterization", being organised by the Indian Association of Solid State Chemists and Allied Scientists at the ISCAS Institute of Solid State and Materials Science, Jammu University Campus, Jammu, was inaugurated by Justice O. P. Sharma, former Judge of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court today. Professor N. S. Gajbhiye, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. H. S. Gaur Central University, Sagar (M.P.) was the guest of honour.
Justice Sharma in his presidential address highly appreciated the efforts of the Indian Association of Solid State Chemists and Allied Scientists for strenthening of research and teaching of science.
Professor N. S. Gajbhiye, who was also honoured by the Association on completion of sixty years of his life, highlighted the importance of nanoscience in the development of mankind.
Prof. N. B. Singh, Dean, Research, Sharda University, Noida, in his key note address spoke on the development and applications on nano science.
Professor Indu Bhushan Sharma, National President of the Association, spoke on the importance of the undergoing National Workshop in terma of areas of strategic importance such as defence, space, nuclear science and energy storage etc.
Prof. B. L. Sharma welcomed the participants, while Professor M. Swaminathan extended the vote of thanks. Prof. G. P. Sachdev, Organising Secretary,conducted the programme.
Among the top scientists of the country, who attended the inaugural function, were Professor N. B. Singh, Dean, Research, Sharda University, Noida (U.P.), Professor M. Swaminathan, Annamalai University, Tamilnadu, Professor O. P. Shrivastava, Sagar University, Sagar and Professor Tokeer Ahmad, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Over one hundred participants from various universities and colleges of the country are participating in the programme.
