MP, MLA, MLC spend 'nil' in village Khiram
6/10/2012 12:13:43 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

ANANTNAG, June 9: After visiting district Anantnag's Khiram Village probably for hundred times and assuring the people to redress their problems related to development, MLA, MLC and MP representing the area have completely failed to spend a single penny from their CDFs in the village on developmental works.
Having second rank in Bijbehara constituency in terms of voter strength, the village Khiram never gets any fund from their elected representatives in the financial year 2011-12, an information obtained through RTI Act has made this startling revelation.
Application filled by a social activist under RTI Act, seeking information about the works done under CDP/CDF and MPLADS funds in year 2011-12, has revealed that MLA, MLC and MP haven't spend a single penny from their funds during the year 2011-12 in the village for the developmental works.
Village dwellers were shocked after the social activist shared this information with them.
"I am active political activist of one of the political party and I am shocked! Because both MLA and MLC are visiting the village twice in a week and are continuously assuring the people that they will redress their problems, but it seems that they are deceiving us." said one resident wishing anonymity.
Another person expressing his anguish said, "Every government and especially politicians have made false promises with us, village is lacking basic amenities, we have no development here… and now, we have decided to boycott these politicians."
Villagers collectively said that according to government they have spend a large amount of money but that was grabbed by the people having political influence. They said that the village was given the status of Model Village some years back but the Shopping complex and Rural Information centre constructed at that time are still locked and Computers and other infrastructure has also been grabbed by one person working in the Rural Department. They said that the tiles meant for the construction of lanes are still lying in the shops of Aqaf Islami Khiram but on the other side concerned department is saying that they used all the tiles. Villagers also said that there are also wide irregularities in the centrally sponsored scheme like IAY, in which Panches and Sarpanches have got benefits for their relatives while deserving candidates have not got any assistance.
Villagers have demanded a high level probe in these irregularities.
Meanwhile, when contacted MLA Bijbehara, Ab Rahman Veeri, said, "I don't know how much I have spent,"
After this he dropped the phone call. When contacted, National Conference MLC, Bashir Ahmad Veeri, said that he has spend money from his fund to develop the power sector of the area.
