Education most powerful medium to dev an enlightened society: Rather

SRINAGAR, JUNE 10: Maintaining that the education is the most powerful medium to create an enlightened, progressive and peaceful society, the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, A. R. Rather today said the present government has flagged this sector as its top most priority. Speaking at a function, after inaugurating a spacious Rs 75 lakh Auditorium in Government Higher Secondary School, Nagam in Tehsil Chadoora, Rather while underscoring the importance of education in mental, moral and physical development of children, asked the teaching fraternity to teach the students with devotion and social commitment adding that each word taught by them to children has life-long, far reaching and indelible impression and impact on their clean mind canvas. Referring to the demands of the school, Rather announced additional 10 computers for computer lab, LCD projector for the auditorium, drainage project for disposal of waste water from the school premises, construction of macadamized pathway for the convenience of the students and staff, a science centre and construction of new boundary wall for the school.
On this occasion, a Scintillating cultural bonanza was presented by the students of the school. The Minister gave away awards and prizes among the students of the school who have excelled in curricular and extra-curricular activities.
He also announced a grant of Rs one lakh to the students, as encouragement, who participated in the cultural programme.
Rather also released the annual magazine of the school 'Noor' and gave away award of honesty to one Javed, a Sumo driver, who had returned Rs 1.60 lakh to a passenger five days after missing of the amount.
Chief R&B, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, Chief Education Officer, Budgam Nazir Ahmad Dar, Principal of the school, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, a large number of students and staff of the school were present on the occasion.
