Parsad's reluctance is advantage to Rajendra | | | early times report Jammu, June 10: It has been probably for the first time that even after a cabinet decision the man tipped to be DGP hasn’t assumed charge. Ashok Parsad, which according to even government is tipped to be the next DGP, is either reluctant or is awaiting clearance at the Centre to assume the charge. It has given rise to host of speculation on continuation of K Rajendra as the head of the state police force. Never before in the past a person cleared as the head of the state police, as delayed the matter for 10-day, that too in a highly sensitive state like J&K. Some police officials are of the view that Parsad is reluctant to accept this assignment as he has higher stakes in intelligence bureau. There are also speculations that Parsad has put rider on the tenure of his service so that his stakes in his parent organization are not jeopardized with longer DGP tenure here. The stakes in IB are much higher and are far more remunerative than being a DGP of J&K, which is not only a small state but is just one of the States in scheme of things of a pan-Indian agency. The buzzword in police circle is that he is camping in New Delhi for rectification of the order rather than for any other reason. The delay in his assuming charge is being seen as advantage to Rajendra, who is slowly and gradually building his case to be announced as the permanent DGP rather than a care-taker. Rajendra also has the advantage of being a J&K cadre officer and has strong bureaucratic and political connection. In addition to it, having served the state police for about 30-years he respects command and trust of the cadre, which will be hard and long game for the new incumbent on account of being not a State cadre officer. The third advantage working in favour of is the Congress being part of the government. Rajendra has strong connections in his home state Andhra Pradesh, also governed by Congress, and sources said he is likely to use this channel to build up his case both at the Centre and State. Any further delay on part of the Parsad and successful completion of Amarnath yatra will eventually close the door of IB man for walking into the highest police chair and Rajendra will get a stamp of approval, which he is so dearly awaiting.
