| JMC councillors’ oppose increase in Mayor’s tenure | | Resolution passed by majority | | JAMMU | JAN 31 The demand for increasing the tenure of Mayor of the Municipal Corporation was negated by almost all the councilors here today in the general house meeting. The resolution which was presented by former Mayor Kavinder Gupta, got the support of more than 65 councillors out of 70 present in the house. The resolution opposed the move of state government which is planning to increase the tenure of the Mayor of Jammu Municipality from one year to two and half year. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Manmohan Singh Chowdhary and was presided over by Deputy Mayor Dharamvir Singh and Commissioner, Municipality Vinod Sharma. Another resolution was presented by BJP Councillor, Ravinder Gupta in which he said that there is scarcity of kerosene oil and food materials at the ration depots. He further said that the regulation of all the depots should be handed over to the respective councillors and it was also passed by majority vote. The third resolution was also presented by the same councillor in which he alleged that various water bodies in the city are in poor condition and need to be renovated so as to manage the rain water and to bring up the water table. He said that some departments are filling such water bodies with the garbage dump against the directions of the Deputy Commissioner. The resolution was passed by the majority. Some councillors alleged that the tiles being used in the construction of lanes were of poor quality and in this regard a four member committee will investigate into the matter. The Jammu Municipality has accepted the proposal put forward by Corporator Bansi Lal Gupta and sanctioned a team of 15 persons to check the menace of stray cattles and dogs which cause a lot of problems to the people. This team will also check the massive increase in the rodent population. Meanwhile, Jammu municipality has also increased the mobile reimbursement of corporators by Rs 300. Apart from it 100 liters of petrol was also granted to every chairman of the committees.
