MLC Jugal demands ex-gratia relief for kin of victims | Painthal bus accident | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 11: Expressing grief over the loss of precious lives in the tragic road accident that occurred at Painthal near Katra in Reasi district, former Minister and Member Legislative Council (MLC) Jugal Kishore has demanded grant of adequate ex-gratia relief to the victims' families. In a statement issued here today, MLC Jugal Kishore conveyed his heart felt sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the accident. Jugal Kishore demanded immediate ex-gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased while he sought Rs 1 lakh to those who received critical injuries and Rs 10 thousand to the persons who sustained minor injuries. Those injured in the accident should be provided free of cost medical treatment, he added. He regretted that such accidents have become a routine affair but no concrete action has been taken so far by the government to save precious human lives. Senior Congress leader also demanded to take effective steps in checking frequent accidents adding that the government should direct traffic police to keep a strict check on overloading and plying of old model buses due to which road mishaps have become a routine affair. He demanded enuiry into the cause of accident and urged the government to fix responsibility for the mishap on the negligent traffic police officials. It is worthwhile to mention here that five persons were killed and 20 others sustained injuries, 15 of them seriously when a bus they were travelling in rolled down at Painthal near Katra in Reasi district. The ill-fated vehicle was on its way from Udhampur to Katra when it met with accident due to the negligence of driver as well as overloading and poor road condition. |
