Children's Welfare Society demands amendments in existing PNDT Act | | | Early Times Report
Jammu , June 11: S Gurdeep Singh Sasan Chairman, J&K Children's Welfare Society urged the government to take immediate steps to bring necessary amendments in present PNDT Act with amendments enacted on 20th Sept. 2003. Speaking in a press conference Sasan said the female foeticide is being carried out at large scale and there is dire need for stringent law to deal with the perpetrators of this unabated heinous crime. "Under the present PC-PNDT Act the culprit is booked under Abetment offence the maximum punishment under this act is upto 5 years imprisonment or fine of Rs.50000/-, he said. Equating the offence as a murder, criminal conspiracy, violence against a particular gender and in contravention against Hypocrite oath, Sasan said, "This is not only simple murder but is a genocide." He urged the Govt. to bring necessary amendments in present PC-PNDT Act to book the butchers and perpetrators of this in human barbaric, cruel and heinous crime under section 302, 120 B and other relevant sections of IPC I RPC in addition to abetment section which is under vogue. Sasan further urged the government to make mandatory for every sonographic centre to go online regarding information and transparency pertaining to sonographic test conducted on pregnant women and also make mandatory for clinics equipped with sonographic machines to enter and maintain proper details of test conducted on women on website. Sasan referred to memorandums submitted to Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh, Union Health Minister, Union Law Minister, Speaker Lok Sabha, Chief Minister of J&K State and other dignitaries and said they appreciated our efforts and acknowledged our concern for female feoticide and assured necessary steps in this regard. While appreciating Revolutionary Beti Anmole Scheme launched by Omar Abdullah Chief Minister J&K State and appealed him to enhanced the said amount from Rs.5000/- to Rs.50000/- (Fifty Thousand Only). He also appealed to Central Government to extended monitory contribution of Rs.45000/- to the state government because J&K is economically weaker state. To end the discrimination with fairer sex in society Sasan and others underlined that women appearing for competitive examination and recruitment should be exempted from fees etc. "The Government should reserve minimum quota of 33% for recruitment in government jobs as well as in public sector undertakings for women, Sufficient representation should be given to women in PSC, Recruitment Board, Judiciary and should create avenues for providing self employment to women at their doorsteps, they added.
