| AVM iyer to take over as Air Officer HQ tomorrow | | | Jammu,Jan 31
Air Vice Marshal VR Iyer on promotion to the rank of Air Marshal would be taking over as Air Officer in charge Personnel at Air HQ tomorrow.He would be taking over the charge from Air Mshl YR Rane, who is proceeding as AOC-in-C, SAC.
Air Vice Mshl Iyer, born on November 10m, 1950,had his schooling at St Patricks HS School, Asansol.An alumunus of National Defence Academy he was commissioned in the fighter stream of Indian Air Force on January 22,1972.
The Air Marshal has more than 3000 hours of flying to his credit.He has flown MiG-21 variants,Jaguars and training aircraft. He has undergone various courses viz.FCL, QFI,DSSC and Air War College at USA.Being a qualified flying instructor,he has imparted training at Air Force Station Bidarand Air Force Academy Dundigal(Hyderabad). He has also been a DS at DSSC Wellington.
AVM Iyer has held various important command and staff appointments.He has commanded a Jaguar Squadron and has been Station Commander of Air Force Station Suratgarh and Air Officer Commanding Air Force Station Ambala.His staff appointments include COO of Air Force Station Gorakhpur and Principal Director (Personnel Officers) at Air Headquarters.
AVM Iyer was Commandant of College of Air Warfare before his new appointment as Air Officer in charge Personnel,a Defence release said.
