Panches, Sarpanches hold protest against neglect

JAMMU, June 12: Aggrieved over their alleged neglect by the State Government, hundreds of Sarpanches and Panches representing different Panchayats of Jammu province took out a massive protest march from BJP headquarters at Kachi Chawni here today
The protest march was organised by BJP Panchayati Raj cell under its state Convenor Baldev Singh Billowria.
Led by BJP MLAs Jugal Kishore Sharma, Shyam Choudhary and Sukhnandan Kumar, the protesting Panches and Sarpanches reached Civil Secretariat, where they held a sit in to protest against the attitude of the state's coalition government towards the Panchayats and their elected members.
Later, they also burnt the effigy of the NC-Congress coalition government as a mark of protest.
While addressing the gathering, MLA Nagrota Jugal Kishore Sharma said that the state government has totally ignored the Panchayats and their elected representatives during the last one year.
Although repeated assurances have been given to empower Panchayats but nothing in practical has been done in this regard, he added. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Sukhnandan Kumar said that the elected Sarpanches and Panches are being targeted and threatened to resign and the government is sleeping.
Panches and Sarpanches drawn from Gangochak, Jagati, Chakroi, Babliana, Kanyala, Biaspur, Panj Grain, Nai Basti, Gundala, Agrachak, Rakh Gaddigarh, Palli, Saharan, Sai Kalan, Kaluchak, Surinsar, Jallochak, Seora, Chanduchak, Jaggar Kotli, Gangwa Parwah, Bamyal, Joda, Marh, Karloop, Nagrota, Badsu, Tirlokpur and Flora panchayats took part in the protest demonstration.
