Farooq hires RSS man Leela Karan as counsel
6/13/2012 12:35:54 AM

Jammu, June 12: Notwithstanding National Conference's political and ideological repulsion with RSS, its President and Union Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah has hired Leela Karan, a frontline RSS man who led famous SASB land row agitation in Jammu as his counsel.
Farooq Abdullah signed a vakalatnama in favour of Leela Karan, a senior advocate of Jammu and Kashmir High Court for a petition seeking vacation of stay order attained by a rival group within the Jammu and Kashmir cricket association.
Pertinent to mention here is the fact that Leelakaran is not only experienced but highly competent advocate, well versed with legalities and intricacies of cases that he has dealt with so far with success. It is on this account that Dr ABdullah has chosen to hire his services in contesting the crucial case in which his image as head of JKCA is stake after the scam erupted early this year.
Farooq Abdullah, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association had constituted an in house committee to probe embezzlement in the JKCA, after huge financial irregularities by former treasurer of the JKCA, Ehsan Mirza came to the fore and opposition PDP cracked its whip on senior Abdullah. The committee included Arvinder Mickey, the former deputy chairman of the state legislative council. A group of rival members, including Ashok Singh, SS Bali and Rohit Malhotra aggrieved by the order of the president to initiate a probe, went to the court seeking a stay against the order of the president, which they achieved.
Now, the Farooq camp of the JKCA, headed by Manzoor Wazir, whom president designated to lead the JKCA in his absence has hired the services of Leela Karan to file a petition against the stay order and the vakalatnama in favour of senior advocate and prominent RSS face of Jammu has been signed by Farooq Abdullah himself.
"I do not think Doctor Sahib would be aware of this move of the treasurer" said an office bearer of the JKCA who did not want to be named.
