NC continues to 'rule roost', Congress still in silence mode | No respite to Jammu in 'discriminatory attitude' | | early times report Jammu, June 12: There is no denying the fact that ruling NC gives preferential treatment to Kashmir region in matters of governance, providing facilities and in all socio economic as well as political decisions, the hard and bitter truth for its alliance partner Congress remains that it continues to maintain intriguing and unacceptable silence in matters of brazen discrimination with Jammu, a constituency which has given it mandate to govern. But instead of taking steps to address or remove this discrimination, the entire cabinet of Congress is seen as having adopted "discriminatory attitude" towards the region. Feeling betrayed, people of Jammu want answer from them as to what makes them become mute spectators when NC is ruling roost, notwithstanding the fact it is 'equal partner' in coalition government. While silence and reticence of Congress over issues that are facing discrimination is not a new phenomenon, this summer it became somewhat conspicuous and hard to accept in the wake of the miseries inflicted on people due to lack of basic necessities like electricity supply and water, leave aside facilities and development works, which get vanished the day Durbar shifts to summer capital from Jammu. Despite an outcry from people and constant clamour of opposition, things remain unmoved and Congress ministers and the leadership of the party is simply turning blind eye, even as ministers continue with their occasional visits to winter capital. There is a widespread feeling that Congress ministers hailing from Jammu have repeatedly betrayed people of the region for their personal benefits in the past and they continue with same policy even now, though they have a sizable number in the cabinet. In addition to the routine power, water crisis, there have been decisions one after the other and issues after issues erupted during NC-Congress coalition regime during the last three years and the final outcome of the decisions or solutions have purely been seen as totally Kashmir-centric and anti-Jammu.The major reason for this is that all the Jammu-based ministers of the Congress have and continue to adopt a complete silence, apparently for the sake of sticking to chairs , for they know if they venture to speak against NC , it amounts to risk of losing ministry. And in the process, the current regime has inflicted more and more miseries, loaded with discrimination , which is against the interests of Jammu and Jammuites. Be it the issue of Dogra certificate two years back that shook the political environment, or the continuous injustice in form of recruitment lists in which Jammu candidates find minimal , so to say negligent share, Congress has almost avowed it won't speak. The ministers of this party did not utter a word when the government took decision of increasing the number of Municipal committee and wards of the Corporations, in which Jammu saw brazen discrimination. The irony of matter remains that media raises these hard questions, some Congress leaders continue to befool the people by making fake and misleading statements that Congress is there to take up all issues with government and try to find out the solutions.
