Delay in cabinet expansion draws flak | Azad fails to submit nominations to the high command | | Bashir Assad Srinagar, June 12: Frustrated with the 'delay' in the cabinet expansion, Congress MLA's from erstwhile Doda district have reportedly turned down a proposal to organize a public meeting in the district to be addressed by union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on the plea that people were annoyed for the district being unrepresented in the Omar Abdullah led coalition regime. Sources told Early Times that union health minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad during his recent visit to Srinagar had suggested that a high profile public meeting shall be convened in the district which was, however, turned down by the MLAs that include Abdul Majid Wani, Viqar Rasool, G M Saroori and Muhammad Sharief Niaz citing disillusionment of people of the area as reason. "People in the district are angry with Azad Sahib and it was very likely that they might boycott the public meeting because there is complete disillusionment among them as Azad Sahib has not shown any interest in giving representation to the district in the state cabinet" sources quoted Doda MLAs as having said. Congress MLAs from the district have cautioned Party High Command including Gh. Nabi Azad that any further delay could prove disastrous for the party in the home district of Azad and the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir . "This is the only district in the state which has fetched 5 out of 6 seats to congress and probably the only district which does not have any representation in the cabinet." MLA Doda Abdul Majeed Wani told Early Times, maintaining that Congress could lose support in the region in case high command continued to ignore the 'aspirations' of the people of region. Majeed who is considered as a close aide of Azad lashed out at congress top brass saying, they were not taking people's aspirations into account. "How long can you ignore voter's aspirations? These are the same People who have won you 5 out of 6 seats." Asserted Wani, adding that high command's disinterest in giving Doda a representationin the cabinet could destabilize congress base in the region. " If you go with the ratio arrangement, there should have been 3 ministers from Doda in the cabinet”, maintained another MLA from the area preferring anonymity. He warned Azad and High Command of drastic consequences for state congress and Coalition government in the state and said, "Why doesn't Party High command think of its future in the state." Congress MLAs from erstwhile Doda district were reportedly disturbed over the reports that it was G N Azad who has not submitted the nominations for cabinet to the congress high command. Meanwhile, sources privy to 10-Janpath told Early Times that Azad has not submitted the nominations particularly from the Doda district to the party high command causing delay in the expansion of state cabinet. Pertinently Azad during his May visit to the state had assured the congress MLAs that expansion in the state cabinet would take place within next 10 to 15 days but even after one month there are no indications whether there would be any expansion or not. On the other hand aspirants from National Conference too are very disturbed due to delay in much awaited and much hyped cabinet expansion.
