Forest employees to go on strike against Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, June 13: Agitated over alleged inaction of the government against forest smugglers who had attacked and injured many officials of the Tosamaidan forest divisions, forest employees have threatened to go on indefinite strike if action was not initiated against the assailants. The forest employees have alleged that no action has been taken against the assailant smugglers till date. Pertinent to mention here that a gang of armed with axes and lathis attacked on forest employees leaving more than 15 forest officials including a Divisional Forest Officer in the Surtharan Tosamaidan division in Budgam injured on May 23. "What is the use of putting our lives to risk when no action is taken against the miscreants?" asked the Divisional Forest Officer Humayun Qadri. "The minister directed the authorities to take strict action against the assailants but the district administration has done nothing till date", he said. Meanwhile Non-gazzetted forest employees association has threatened to go on indefinite strike, if the government fails to take strict action against the assailant smugglers. However, Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam Uttam Chand has said police has initiated action against the smugglers. "We have initiated action and one of the alleged smugglers is in police custody", he said. |
