Situation not conducive in valley for return of Pandits | | | early times report Jammu, June 13: The recent threats to Sarpanches and Panches in Kashmir valley coupled with attack on their relatives at different places is an indication that Kashmir valley is returning to 1989-90 situation in case government could not take serious steps to thwart the design of those forces who are inimical to return of peace in trouble-torn state. The attack on relative of a Panch in South Kashmir and threatening to Panches and Sarpanches in south Kashmir is a testimony to the fact that all is not well in Kashmir valley and militants are again trying to re-group and dictate terms as they used to do for two decades since 1989. Though this is a serious situation and concern for all peace loving people in Kashmir valley in particular and state of J&K in general but it has also indicated that claims made by state government on restoration of peace are hollow. If one goes by the statement of Director General Police, K. Rajendra that militants are trying soft targets in valley to show their presence and create panic among people then one can reach the conclusion that Kashmir is still at a volcano threatening peace in sub continent and it needs more serious efforts to combat terrorism on one hand and to win the hearts of common man on the other side to bring people in national mainstream said, Ramesh Kumar a social activist. Kumar said even the General Officer Commanding(GOC) Gen Hasnain has also termed the situation disturbing saying that it is difficult to contain infiltration across border. This is also a cause of concern. If such is the situation in valley then how the Government is claiming to take migrants back who have been worst victims of terrorism. Veer Ji an activist of Roots in Kashmir while commenting on the prevailing situation in valley cautioned the Pandits from those vested interests who are pursuing them to return under the garb of employment package saying when ground situation is not conducive the return move will prove suicidal. He said in view of the enmass resignation of Panches and Sarpanches in valley shows that government was unable to protect even the pubic representatives so how can it protect the minorities who have earlier too become the soft target of militants. Veer said Pandits were forced to flee from the valley leaving property worth millions of Rupees behind. Even the government employees did not care for the job nor businessmen for their business. They preferred to live in open fields outside the valley to lead a free and respectable life than to carry the fathwas and dictates of militants. He said prevailing situation is no better than 1989-90 for the minority Pandits in valley and hence they should not fall a prey to those self styled leaders who are hell bent to lure them to return.
