Is Pakistan a peace loving country ?
6/14/2012 10:36:32 PM
Is Pakistan a peace loving nation ? Has Pakistan strongly believe in maintaining cordial relations with its immediate neighbours, especially with India and Afghanistan ? Does the 64-year history of existence bear any testimony to the claim of people who matter in Islamabad that Pakistan has always been nation supporting peace ? These questions have assumed inter est and importance after the Pakistani Army Chief, Gen.Ashfaq Kayani has asserted the other day that Pakistan is a peace loving country and harbours "no aggression" towards anyone. "We are a peace loving nation and harbour no aggression towards anyone but at the same time we value our freedom and independence more than anything else," Kayani has said.
Kayani said Pakistan's armed forces are fully prepared to ensure sovereignty and dignity of the country. He said that in the war against terrorism "the young officers have set examples for us and we should acknowledge the dedication of our brave soldiers who are taking pride by laying their lives for the nation. "Yes, a number of young Pakistani Army officers have lost their lives while fighting terrorists. But the main question is whether the top Army functionaries and those heading the ISI have really worked for peace and supported the ongoing global war against terror.
Those who are aware of the strategies the establishment in Islamabad, including those wo headed the Army and the ISI, adopted since the birth of Pakistan in 1947 argue with inst ances in support of the general belief that Pakistan has never been sincere in promoting peace within and outside this Islamic nation. And these very analysts refer to the 1947 tribal invasion on Jammu and Kashmir which had open support from the Pakistani Army. They cite the instance of 1965, 1971 wars and the 1999 Kargil conflict while holdding Pakistan responsible for death and destruction in the subcontinent.
And if any further proof was needed for establishing that Pakistan has never been a peace loving country it can be given while recounting overt and covert support Islam-abad and other Pro-Pak handlers have been giving to its sponsored war against India, including Jammu and Kashmir, by providing moral and material aid to militants who have been active in carrying out acts of sabotage and subversion since 1989. If besides India Afghanistan have been facing severe political and security instability it is the result of Pakistan's open aid to militants, including the Talibans and the Al Qaeda. In fact several dreaded terrorist outfits, including Lashkar-i-Toiba, Al Qaeda, Jash-e-Mohammad, Talibans, are nothing but the creations of Pakistan and its ISI.
Whenever the establishment in Islamabad has been showing interest in resolving various bilateral problems with India the Army and the ISI force the political leadership to change the plan. And instead of hammering out a joint plan for combating terroriism and for settling Siachen, Sir Creek and the water and visa issues Islam-abad sees to it that talks suffered failure and hence it keeps on insisting that all the bilateral parleys be Kashmir centric. At one stage the cabinet in Islamabad had decided that it would give the Most Favoured Nation Status (MFNS) to India as far as bilateral trade is concerned but the Army and the ISI prevailed upon the ruling political leadership with the result the MFNS was kept under carpet. Hence when Gen. Kayani t alks about Pakistan being a peace loving country nobody is prepar ed to accept it. If Kayani really wants the world to believe that Pakistan is a peace loving nation he should support purposeful dialogue with India for serttling Siachen, Sir Creek, water and Visa. It can be done if the Kashmir issue is kept under carpet.
