Please spare C.E.C’s office | | Raina K Kailash | 6/14/2012 10:37:32 PM |
| After Independence I have seen many bureaucrats who ach-ieved recongnition hounour dignity and players very decisive roles in maintainging the autonomous character of Chief fElection Commissioner with authority and without any compromise with principles & honour. And one among them was Mr T.N Seshan. He took the whole country on a ride when he was Chief Election Commissioner. This was not an ordinary feat for any bureauctrats and it is an exception too. Mr Seshan maintained the autonomous character of C.E.C's office authoritative an transparent without any political interference. Many a times during his tenure he took decisions which were not possible for any bureaucrat. Senshan proved that he is one who with all reservations demonstrated that he has guts in mind and kindneys in brain and that made him great. He never become the tool of the establishment of that time and used to be at logger heads with Govt but demo stated his "Will by making he Chief Election Commissioner's office as an autonomous body transparent and free from any Govt influence and till date the C.E.C's office is an autonomous body free from any influence we need such bureaucrats who leave their office after retirement with an indelible mark in the minds of people. And live gracefully after retirement the poelple of India will always remain thankful to such who were also demonstrating exemplary conurge with extra ordinary capabilities with never to compromise attitude. No favours to any political affiliations & stature. But now some political parties are trying to neutralize the authority and autonomy of this Premier Institute with Jaundicided Wisdom and among them BJP's Mr L.K Advani is the forefront in association with other parties and after the retir4ement of Mr. SY Qureshi who retired on with other parties an after the retirement of Mr S.Y Qureshi who retired on Sunday and the new Chief Election Commissioner Mr. V.S Sampat has take the reins of this commission on Tuesday with the promise that the commission will carry on priority the mission of crabbing the money power and other reforms on priority and will carry his predecessor's incomplete mission forward. Now it seems strange of he letter which Mr. L/K Advani has written to Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh seeking chages in the processes of selection of Electrion Commissioner members by saying that the present system was in vulnerable to manipulations. He has slammed the Govt that such decisions are in the domain of ruling party and had pleaded that to appoint new members of the Election Commission be appointed by a collegiums, whereas the present on the sole recommendations of the Prime Minister but what is wrong in this established practive wnd atleast people of the country have no problem the only thing which matters much to the people is the credibility of the Chief Election Commissioner. The action taken by one of the former Chief Election Commissioner against his own Election Commission members Mr Navin Chawla and CEC was none other than Mr Rama-swami and Mr Advani supporting the Chief Election Co-mmissioner at that time is appreciated but was not mandatory also. But this time taking of a collegiums is having all together a different meaning because every political party has tasted the bitter pill in the assembly elections. Chief Election Commissioner personally monitored the elections of U.P Uttrar-akand, Punjab and Manipur, Goa etc and the successful conclusion of these assembly elections and millions of rupees seized from political parties and now few political parties are hell bent to scuttle the powers of election commissioner by raising the questions of Bipartism lack of transparency and want an amendment in article 324 of the constitution. They have forgotten the hall mark achievements of Qureshi now the retired CEC like communalism of politics, paid advertisements in the media, pressure of the mafia, mafia, muscle power and use of money in elections. As also elections of 2009 Parliamentary is a testimony of his credentials. By replacing article 324 of the constitution as demanded will serve no purpose because replacing it with 324 (2) which does not require ay constitutional amendment. The politicians have really forgotten Dr. Lyngdoh, Mr. M.S. Gill and their spurb contributions. The people of India are indebted to such bureaucrats. The country cannot be left on the whims and fancies of some political individuals who still are living in dying hopes, trying to put pressure on Government of the day simply for opposition sake and without any merit. These political parties just want to remain in limelight because their present is in trauma and future gloomy. Least but not last these political parties atleast spare such bureaucrats who are dignified and are running their institutions autonomously and with authority without any favour to the present establishment, we should support such bureaucrats who are less in number but dignified in character and approach just spare them and don't oppose for opposition sake. Govt. should not give any serious thought to this demand which is arbitrary with malafied attention and will prove disastrous to the function of Chief Election Comm-issioner's Office which is already doing a commendable job. The Election Comm-issioner's Office has already proved its credibility in the eyes of United Nations Observers in the state like Jammu & Kashmir. We wish that Mr. V. S Sampat will carry forward the Election Commissioner's Office authority gracefully tactfully and without any favours to any political establishments.
