Migrant pensioners demand simplification of verification process | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 14: Aged and infirm people belonging to the displaced families from Kashmir have requested the Jammu and Kashmir Government to simplify the process related to the verification of the documents of the pensioners. Representatives of the displaced people today said that though the Government has extended the date for verification of the documents of the pensioners till the end of July, the plight of the displaced people needs to be taken into account. Explaining it they said that several thousand pensioners belonging to the displaced families have been living in various towns and cities in the country after their exodus from the valley. Nearly 45 per cent of these people are either bed ridden or are suffering from various mental and physical ailments. They said "is it possible for an 85 year old Kashmir Pandit widow, living in Bhiwadi in Rajasthan, to reach Jammu for verification of her family pension documents?" "Is it possible for M K Kaul, living in a remote corner of Faridabad in Haryana, to be present in Jammu for verification for his pension documents when he is bed ridden for the last six years?' They ask. The representatives have said that there were a large number of aged pensioners living in Baroda, Mumbai, UP, Rajasthan, Punjab for whom it would be difficult to be present in Jammu for verification. These representatives have suggested to the Government to simplify verification by accepting a medical certificate from the doctors under whose treatment these migrants have been in various towns and cities in the country. The doctor can attest a latest photograph of the pensioner and certify that the pensioner is alive but unable to travel to Jammu for verification of the pension documents. They have stated that several pensioners and those drawing family pension were ready to foot the bill of officials from the treasury department if they are sent to the places where the pensioners reside in towns and cities in the country for on the spot verification. According to the latest report, the Finance Department has extended the date for verification of documents of pensioners up to July 31, 2012. The pension to the pensioners for the month of July 2012 payable in August 2012 shall not be paid without prescribed verification certificates. All the Treasury officers have already been instructed to exempt such pensioners from the personnel appearance who are ill, old aged and have other valid reasons. In this direction, the Treasury Officer have been directed to depute a member of the Treasury staff to their residence for such verification. |
