Early Times Report
RAIPUR-DOMANA, June 14: In its ongoing "Panchayat Chalo Abhiyan", the Pradesh Youth Congress' (PYC) reached out to the elected panchayat members of Raipur-Domana assembly segment here today.
A large number of Sarpanches and Panches participated in the programme. PYC office bearers under the leadership of Pranav Shagotra exchanged ideas and listened to their problems for further projection with the concerned authorities.
The programme was coordinated by Ravi Kanth Seith, PYC Raipur Domana Assembly segment president.
Besides highlighting their demand for the adaptation and implementation of 73rd and 74th Amendments, the Panches and Sarpanches strongly demanded the upgradation of panchayat infrastructure, financial grants and work force for making their offices functional. Many of the Sarpanches alleged that though they have been given training about their powers and functions but they are hardly allowed to exercise their power and many government officials do not even care to listen to them.Speaking on the occasion Pranav Shagotra urged the government to upgrade the panchayat infrastructure like construction and renovation of panchayat ghars, raising of boundary walls, installation of drinking water coolers and other necessary infrastructure to make panchayat offices functional.
He welcomed the decision of government of release of one lakh rupees to each panchayat and was of the view that this a very small amount and more financial grants must be released to Panchayats as soon as possible. He also urged the Chief Minister to empower the Panchayats and give the financial and monitoring powers.
