Army chief begins two-day visit of J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 15 : Army chief Gen Bikram Singh Friday began a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from the Udhampur-based Northern Command and reviewed the security situation of the state. Gen Singh along with his wife Bubbles Singh, president, Family Welfare Organisation (FWO) flew to Udhampur-based Northern Command headquarters this morning on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after becoming chief of Army staff on May 31. Gen Singh, had a detailed interaction with lt gen KT Parnaik, general officer commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-C), Northern Command, who also received him, the Northern Command spokesperson said.In this meeting with the GOC-in-C, the COAS was apprised of the current security situation and the operational preparedness in Northern Command, as well as the complex dynamics of the proxy war situation in the state, he said. He also reviewed the security situation of Jammu with the commanders at the high-level meeting. The Army chief was briefed about the security situation, graph of militancy, infiltration, counter-terrorism operations, operational preparedness and sadhbhavana operations. The measures related to counter infiltration along borderline and cross-LoC firing incidents also came up for discussion. Gen Singh will be flying to Srinagar, where he is scheduled to meet Governor NN Vohra and chief minister Omar Abdullah in the evening. He will also review the security set-up at the 15 Corps headquarters and will visit forward areas in Kashmir on Saturday. |
