CBI exposes graft nexus at Chakkan-da-Bagh, arrests two officials for accepting graft | | | early times report Jammu, June 15: "Anti Corruption Branch of Central Bureau of investigation (CBI), Jammu arrested two officials of Plants Quarantine Centre at Chakkan-da-Bagh, Poonch on Thursday and exposed the alleged nexus of corruption for allowing trucks carrying export goods to Pakistan to move across LoC, sources within CBI said According to high placed sources, the accused have been identified as Buta Singh, Assistant Plant Protection Officer, Department of Agriculture and his assistant Ganga Singh, TO-1 who were caught red handed at their residences near Poonch-Rawlakote Poonch. "Sleuths of CBI Jammu apprehended the duo while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2400 in lieu of providing Plant Health Certificate to send trucks carrying products of organic nature across the Line of Control as a part of the cross LoC trade, sources said. Sources revealed that a trap was laid following a complaint from a complainant engaged in cross LoC trade who filed a complaint to CBI Jammu Office on June 8 alleging that the aforesaid officials had stopped his trucks carrying tamarind (Imli) as he had refused to fulfill their demand of bribe @ Rs 200/- per truck for providing plant health certificate. "The complainant had to call back his trucks, the complainant stated and further added he was again intercepted during another visit when he was carrying dry grapes, Banana etc across Chakkan-da-Bagh and the aforesaid officials denied to grant the certificate without the bribe and his trucks got stuck again for days, sources said. They added that taking cognizance in the matter the complaint was verified and found to be credible. "CBI ACB Jammu laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while accepting bribe in presence of independent witnesses, sources said and added that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act against Buta Singh, Assistant Plant Protection Officer and Ganga Singh, TO-1 who later produced before a Court at Poonch for transit remand to Jammu, they added.
