Lung Cancer Initiatives making inRoads in Cancer Management

Jammu , June 16 : As a part of the cancer care initiatives been started by Dr Deepak Abrol who is actively associated for the launch of famous Group "Radiation of Hope"-aimed at creating cancer awareness among the masses ,A CME was conducted at Hotel HariNiwas. This group under DrAbrol's leadership and under the patronage of Dr Ashok Kumar Vaid(Chairman Medical Oncology and Hematology MedantaGurgoan) have been actively involved in organizing number of cancer awareness camps .The efforts of this group has been recognized and awarded not only nationally but also internationally by UICC (Union for Internal Cancer Control )who had posted their cancer awareness activities on their websites . Keeping in lines about the objective of this group one such initiative took place on 16th June 2012 in Jammu wherein DrAbrol highlighted the fact that the incidence of Lung Cancer is higher in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB ) while the Survival is shorter in lung cancer patients who present initially with active TB. He also highlighted the risk factors been associated with Lung cancer like smoking , occupational hazards and the previous tuberculosis history .
He also spoke about new Lung Cancer Staging and its clinical implications .DrAbrol has recently completed his CME Certificate course on this topic from Cleveland Clinic Foundation . The session was attended by all leading eminent Chest TB Physicians and Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgeons and also doctors from other fields who shared their experiences regarding the differential diagnosis of TB and Lung Cancer. The session was chaired by DrGurjeet Singh (HOD ,CTVS GMC ),DrYashGandotra (Medical Directory -Maharishi Dyananad Hospital ) and Dr H.K Badyal and moderated by DrSandeepKaur&Dr Rahul Gupta ,both lecturers in GMC Jammu .Dr Deepak also shared that such initiatives would continue to happen in the near future .
