| Issueless villager `purchases wife’ from WB | | Couple murdered in Kupwara; Police identifies accused | | Srinagar, Feb 01 In a gruesome incident, a couple was done to death in border district of Kupwara, here late last night. Police said it has identified the killer and a manhunt has been launched to arrest them. The deceased have been identified as Shah Zaman Khan (35 yrs) son of Said Rehman Khan and his wife Fatima Jan (25 yrs). Police said that couple was killed by one Bashir Ahmed along with his associates, who was said to be absconding. If the police version of the murder has to be believed, the deceased Shah Zaman had `purchased’ a girl hailing from West Bengal from a `mediator’ and married her as he was not having any issue from his first wife. The girl, after living in the house for over a year, fled away leading to a dispute between the deceased and the `mediator’ Bashir Ahmed, who was asked to return the money he had received in lieu of the girl. The dispute between the two is said to be the main cause of the killing and police suspects Bashir Ahmed as the main accused in the murder. Giving details, a police spokesman said that Police Kupwara received information regarding the death of two persons at Nagitha Manigah. SSP Kupwara Vijay Kumar along with Dy SP Hqrs Kupwara and SHO Police Station Kupwara rushed to the scene of occurrence. On reaching there, Shah Zaman Khan (age 35 years) son of Said Rehman Khan and his wife namely Fatima Jan (age 25 years) residents of Nagitha Manigah were found dead. The dead body of Shah Zaman Khan was found lying near his house with his head injured and the body of Fatima Jan was found laying on bed. The dead bodies were recovered and Medico legal tests were held at SDH Kupwara, following which it were handed over to the relatives for last rites. During the course of preliminarily investigation, it was learnt that the deceased had no issue from his first wife and because of this he had married with a girl from West Bengal namely Rani one year back. The girl was purchased from Bashir Ahmad Swathi son of Alam resident of Manigah. A police spokesman told News Agency of Kashmri that Rani ran away from the house of deceased some fifteen days back, for some unknown reasons. On this the deceased person demanded his money back from the Bashir Ahmad which he denied. This reportedly resulted in a dispute between the two. The accused along with his associates barged into the house, late last night and killed the couple. Police has launched a manhunt to nab the accused Bashir and his associates. |
