AE caught red handed; Vigilance produces challan against former TSO

An Assistant Engineer of Rural Development Department was caught red handed while accepting illegal gratification in Shopian area of district Pulwama, while State Vigilance Organisation produced challan against a former Tehsil Social Welfare Officer in the court of special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, here today.
Sources said that Assistant Engineer of Rural Development Department Block Shopian Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Ali Muhammad Bhat of Kakapora was caught red handed by a team of State Vigilance Organization while accepting a bribe of Rs.1800 from the complainant Fayaz Ahmad Shah
The accused had allegedly demanded Rs.2700 as graft for releasing the payment in favour of Muhammad Iqbal Shah, Contractor brother of the complainant, in connection with the construction of Bathroom of Government Higher Secondary School Hajipora.
Sources told News Agency of Kashmri that a deal was finally settled at Rs.1800 which the accused was accepting at the time of trap.
Meanwhile, as per an official spokesman, challan was produced against Kowser Naqashbandi, the than Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Tangmarg for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.500 before Special Judge Anti-Corruption Srinagar, today.
The challan was the outcome of investigation conducted by the organisation following the registration of a complaint by Muhammad Abdullah Mir of Qazipura Tangmarg with Police Station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir on November 21, 2005, the spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir.
The complainant had alleged that the accused then posted as Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Tangmarg was demanding illegal gratification for release of Rs 21600 as scholarship sanctioned by the Central Govt. under National Foundation of Communal Harmony Scheme in favour of children of his deceased son who was killed by militants in 1994.
A Case was registered and in the course of investigation the Vigilance team laid a trap during which the accused was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs.500 from the complainant.
The challan was produced today following the sanction for prosecution by the Government, he added.
