Religions show path for leading prosperous life: Sham

JAMMU, June 17 : To mark the celebrations of 191th Raj Tilak Divas of Maharaja Gulab Singh an impressive function was organized on the right Bank of River Chenab, Jia Pota Ghat, in Akhnoor today.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab had solemnized the coronation of Raja Gulab Singh as Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir at Jia Pota on June 17, 1822.
The function was organized by the state foundation and Raj Tilak celebration committee Akhnoor, while Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest on the occasion. Vice Chairman of Advisory Board for OBCs, Kuldeep Raj Verma, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Madhu Khullar, Director Horticulture, Y N Sharma, Director Floriculture, K K Sharma, SDM Akhnoor, H S Jamwal, Tehsildar Akhnoor, all sectoral officers, sarpanchs, Panchs, chairman Raj Tilak Foundation Committee, K P Singh, Major General (Retd) G S Jamwal, President Rajput Paratineedi Sabha, Narain Singh, President Bar Association, B S Slathia, Principal Nagbani School were also present on the occasion. Paying rich tributes to Maharaj Gulab Singh, Sham said that contribution of Maharaja for the state of Jammu and Kashmir would remain incomparable in coming times and described him a visionary, brave and a great human being who did justice to all and treated the public as his own family members. His memories shall remain evergreen in the minds of every person of this state with great honour, the Minister maintained.
Sham said that the government was making every effort to restore the pristine glory of heritage sites and steps are being taken to show case these to attract the tourist and increase their stay in the state, particularly the pilgrim tourists of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi ji in Jammu. He said the varied landscape of tourism attraction places right from Lakhanpur to Ladakh and Poonch to Kishtwar have been added to the already famous places of Kashmir which would catapult the scope of tourism industry in the state. He said today the state has a variety of attractions for the visitors, including adventure, sports and eco tourism in addition to the traditional leisure tourism.
Highlighting the historical importance of Akhnoor Town, Sham said that faster development of this town has been accorded priority by the government and various schemes in R&B, PHE, PDD, Tourism, Education and health sectors have been initiated to achieve its balanced.
He said the government had also planned to set up Dogra library in Akhnoor and hold various types of cultural activities to project the place as a heritage centre.
Earlier, the Minister and Vice Chairman OBC paid floured tributes at the statutes Maharaj Ranjeet Singh and Maharaja Gulab Singh of Jia Pota Ghat.On the occasion, the Minister also presented trophies to a troupe of mountaineers and honoured a local girl who has been selected in IFS.
