J&K Batwal Welfare Association demands justice | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 17 : The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association today explained the main demands of the Batwal Community in a press conference held in Hotel Vardaan, today It said since 63 years of independence, the Union as well as the State Government of Jammu and Kashmir have done a lot for the upliftment and betterment of all socially and economically weaker sections but so far nothing has been done for the poorest Batwal Scheduled Caste Community which is lagging behind in all fields. The Community has not been given any sort of representation in the Rajya Sabha, State Legislature, State Development Board and District Development Boards. It has the maximum strength among the Scheduled Caste Communities. It further stated that even in services the reservation is given to those Scheduled Caste candidates whose communities are politically well established at the cost of Batwal Community. The Community is totally ignored at all levels. It also said that all the communities have been allotted land by the Government in the vicinity of Jammu for the construction of community halls but the Batwal Community comprising a huge segment of population in the State has not so far been allotted even an inch of land for the purpose. Lakhotra urged the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to direct the Planning Commission to analyze the survey report and keep a provision of 'Special Economic Package for the Batwal Community in its Five Year Plan.It stated that as per the communications received from the Chief Minister's Office, copies of the memorandum submitted to the State Govt. on Feb 07, 2012 through Deputy Chief Minsiter Tara Chand were forwarded to various by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for initiating necessary action therein, but after a lapse of four months, the association has not till date been advised of the action taken in the matter by any Department Lakhotra also mentioned to the Press Media that Kamlosh Motan has been nominated as Senior Vice President of the Association by the General Body.
