NC jumps on to the Hurriyat bandwagon? | Musharraf's Four-Point Formula | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 17: The NC might give up its demand of greater autonomy and jump on to the bandwagon of APHC-G, which has been hailing former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf's four-point Kashmir solution as a first step towards the final goal: Separation from India. In fact, the NC has already expressed itself in favour of the Musharra's formula. It was none other than Dr Mehboob Beg, NC MP, who hailed Musharraf and his Kashmir solution. It happened only six days ago. Actually, he commended the Mushrraf's formula during his interaction with reporters at Sarnal, Anantnag. What exactly did he say while commending the Musharraf's formula? Criticizing the interlocutors for their suggestion that three regional councils should be created in the state, one each for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, he said: "We have excellent formulas like the Musharraf's four-point formula. We can move ahead by making them a launching pad. When we talk about religion, region and ethnicity, we only try to disintegrate the state and that is against the basic fundamentals of the country," he said. This is precisely what APHC-M has been saying since the last six years or so and urging New Delhi to accept and implement the Musharraf formula as an interim measure. The Musharraf formula suggests demilitarization, self-governance, joint mechanism or joint control of India and Pakistan over Jammu & Kashmir and porous borders and irrelevant Line of Control. The acceptance and implantation of the Musharraf's formula would mean the rise of a situation under which Islamabad would exercise co-equal powers with New Delhi in the Indian Jammu & Kashmir. It would also mean the emergence of a system that would be entirely different from the one the Indian Constitution provides for. Besides, it would also mean the ability of Islamabad to foment trouble after trouble in Kashmir with a view to grabbing the Indian Jammu & Kashmir and integrating it inPakistan in the same way in which Islamabad integrated Gilgit-Baltistan in the Pakistani state. Not only this, it would also mean a great setback for those in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh who have all though fought for the state's integration into India. But more than that, the implementation of the Musharraf's formula would mean another communal partition of India and a great victory of the votaries of the two-nation theory. This is what Beg, Mirwaiz and others of their ilk want. Beg is an important NC leader. He is an MP. It is clear that whatever he said at Sarnal he said at the behest of the party leadership. He simply advocated his party's line, thus hinting at the possibility of the NC and the outfits like the APHC-M coming together for the "larger cause" at an appropriate time. Former APHC chairman Prof Abdul Gani Bhat had also suggested some days back in Sopore that it would be prudent if all the separatist and "mainstream" political outfits in Kashmir devise a common minimum programme and fight for the "Kashmir cause" unitedly. Something poisonous is cooking up in Kashmir. It's time to call the NC bluff. Why are the Congress and the BJP silent? Why is New Delhi silent? Their silence is intriguing.
