Machhedi- a nature's bounty facing govt apathy
6/18/2012 10:46:31 PM
ARUN TRISAL
JAMMU, June 18: Machhedi, a picturesque location in tehsil Billawar of district Kathua, is endowed with bounty of nature and has the potential to be developed as a tourist hub. But thanks to the apathy of the state government that it is still a backward place with no metalled road connectivity and other basic facilities.
The 'indifferent' attitude of the government has kept a place like Macheddi neglected and underdeveloped which is another glaring example of discrimination with Jammu province.
There is no policy and a state which doesn't have the revenue to pay salary to its employees, sees the other way round when it comes to be entrepreneurial in developing sites with the natural advantage.
Developing tourist places also provide employment to the youth, however, state is not paying attention towards this aspect.
Macchedi is located 130 kilometres from Kathua and 110 kilometres from the national highway at Dayalachack towards north.
Macchedi is surrounded by beautiful mountains and snow capped peaks which makes the stay pleasant. Excellent scenic, cultural, religious places are within short distances ranging from few kilometres to 20 kilometres.
Even the dense forest of Deodar trees, cold winds lofty peaks with snow are the reflections of nature's beauty that stores the immense potential to be a tourism hub. But all gets eclipsed when one sees the discriminatory and apathetic attitudes of the authorities towards the development of this hill station i.
"You can not imagine modern infrastructure Macheddi as the government has failed to provide any facility here. Many of the areas nearby are still accessible by foot as the road connectivity is worst here," Muhammad Saleem, a local resident, said. Sarpanch Khushi Ram told Early Times that the people of this area have been suffering from various multiple problems, he said there is single road which connects the place with Billawar which is about 24 kilometres.
The road is totally damaged as several deep and wide holes have been formed across length and breadth of it due to which a mishap could happen any time.
There is no proper and effective medical centre due to which people of the area are facing many hardships.
So far as the climate is concerned this area has no difference from Kashmir it has all the natural beauty or wealth to catch the eyes of tourists but need to be focused with impartial approach of the state Government.
Some of the tourists including Amrish Sharma, Bunty, Ashu, Sunil, Arun Vidhanshu, Sachin, and Preeti said that this place is so beautiful that if proper infrastructure is provided it could be at par with Kashmir.
