Dissension in BJP, Cong helps PDP gaining ground in Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 19 : Aware of the dissensions within the state units of the Congress, the BJP and the BSP, all having areas of influence in the Jammu region, the main opposition PDP leadership has decided to make bigger inroads in the region by weaning away leaders and supporters of these parties to its side. Party sources said that after having enrolled scores of leaders and activists belonging to the BJP, the Congress and the National Conference in the Jammu region during the last over one year the PDP has angled a big fish by admitting Surinder Chaudhry, General Secretary of the BSP, in the organization. PDP sources said that the former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohd Sayeed, had been receiving enthusiastic support from people of the region and what seems to have encouraged the Muftis to extend their network in the Jammu region is the way they have been getting support from people belonging to the areas traditionally known to be stronghold of the Congress a nd the BJP. The Muftis move with a definite plan. Their plan, according to sources close to them, is to strengthen their vote bank in the Jammu region so that the PDP could get simple majority in the Assembly during the election which is due in 2014. Since the Muftis do not rule out the possibility of early Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir they are keen to strengthen the areas of influence in the Jammu region so that after the net Assembly elections the PDP had not to bank on the Congress support for forming the Government. Actually the PDP leadership's plan is to prevent the National Conference from winning more than two Assembly seats in the Jammu region and if this plan materialised the PDP would be the sole gainer after the chances for the BJP and the Congress, both plagued by factional feuds, to repeat 2008 performance were quite bleak. Report s said that with its consistent campaign against various omissions and commissions having been committed by the Government headed by the National Conference people in the Jammu region have gradually started supporting the PDP which has promised to end regional discrimination. |
