JU to establish University Institute of Technology (UIT)

JAMMU, June 19: With a view to expand higher studies set up for Engineering, the Academic Council of Jammu University today gave its nod to establish University Institute of Engineering Technology(UIT) in the main campus, which shall initially offer B Tech and M Tech courses in Electronic and Communication Engineering and Computer Engineering. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Academic Council of University of Jammu held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar. At the outset, the Vice Chancellor welcomed the distinguished members of the Council and apprised them about the developments and achievements of the University of Jammu during the past one year. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ishar said that this will help not only the students to choose technical careers but also the ones that go for higher studies in engineering.
It was also resolved to introduce various courses at main and offsite campuses that comprises of M.A programme in Defence and Strategic Studies, M.A programme in Rural Development, M Sc in Sericulture in Poonch Campus, B Sc Honours in Chemistry, M Sc Food Science & Technology, M Sc in Forestry, M Phil Bio-informatics, M.Ed. Inclusive Education, One year PG Diploma in clinical Psychology, two year PG Diploma in Sports Psychology, three years PG Diploma in Counselling & Physiotherapy, M.A Economics ( with specialization in Public Policy), M Phil Library Science, M.A Public Administration, MBA in International Business Programme approved by AICTE, M Sc in applied Mathematics, PG Diploma in Composite culture management (one year) at International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource management. The Academic Council also nominated Prof Kuldeep K Sharma, Head, Department of Zoology as member of syndicate for the triennial period of 2012-15.The academic council, however, did not grant approval to start those courses at the private affiliated colleges which are not being run by the University Post-Graduate Departments/Offsite Campuses/Government Colleges/Permanent affiliated Colleges.
